Schedule an specialist level Carve Your Own pounamu workshop for a pekapeka - a bat. Create your own taonga (treasured object) with the guidance of our expert carvers, using authentic pounamu (New Zealand greenstone). You don’t need any experience - you’ll shape the stone yourself, step by step, with our support.
This workshop is designed for carvers with next to no carving experience in mind, but previous carving experience is highly recommended. This workshop will take up to 2 full days of 6-7 hrs due to the complexity of the form. In this workshop we will cover the cultural history of the form, the tools and skills necessary for stone-carving and will guide participants through the process of creating a pounamu pekapeka. By the end of the workshop, participants will have a fully completed and bound pekapeka to take home.
