Kōuma are breastplates or shield adornments that represent strength and leadership. Evolving from body armour, they are a taonga of personal protection that share their beauty with te ao tūroa (the outer world).
This kōuma was carved by Chris Taylor from kahurangi pounamu sourced from Te Wai Pounamu, Aotearoa. With a semi-gloss finish, the pendant measures 95mm by 48mm and has a hand-plaited adjustable polyester cord.
