Kapeu pendant made from whalebone and bound by a black adjustable wax cord. This piece measures 98 x 10 x 2 mm.
Kapeu are traditional earrings worn by both genders and indicate that an individual holds mana (prestige). Kapeu can be further decorated with feathers to enhance their appearance. These taonga were a sign of status, leadership and authority.
