PKO3397S

Hei matau are fish hooks fashioned in the style of Māui. These are symbols of abundance, prosperity, and wealth. They are also considered to provide good luck and safety on water, and are therefore thoughtful gifts for travellers.

This piece was hand-carved from bovine bone by Peter Mitchell and is hung by an adjustable hand-plaited wax cord.

The size of this piece is 50 x 25 mm.
