Rei Mako Kawata - Silver Mako Tooth Necklace

Sands Jewellery House

Deep within the alluvial beds along the West Coast of Te Wai Pounamu, gold and silver is found alongside pounamu. European settlers brought metal-working to Aotearoa, making the combination of precious metals with greenstone naturally complementary and a true fusion of pākehā and Māori cultures.

This rei mako kawata was crafted by Alex Sands from a mako tooth and set in sterling silver with mangōpare embellishments. It measures 28mm by 15mm, has a semi-gloss finish, and is bound with an adjustable hand-braided polyester cord.
