Whakaruruhau are breastplates or shield adornments that represent strength and leadership. They are a taonga of personal protection that share their beauty to the Te Ao Tūroa (outer world).
This piece is carved from Inanga pounamu and hangs on a black adjustable cord. Inanga is the lightest form of pounamu and can be pearly white to grey green, translucent to opaque. It is named after the native freshwater fish whitebait.
The breast plate can be worn on both sides and measures: 72 x 21 x 9mm
