Manaia, a powerful personal guardian in Māori tradition, embodies mana – the concept of personal power, authority, and prestige. Along with its role as a kaitiaki (protector) of earth, sea and sky, manaia are spiritual beings which act as messengers between the earthly world and the spiritual. This manaia was carved by Aden Hogland from a piece of raukaraka pounamu, with golden clouds running patterns up the body of the kaitiaki to truly bring it to life. The manaia pendant measures 57mm by 40mm and has a gloss finish.
