Schedule an journeyman level Carve Your Own pounamu workshop for a hei matau - a fishhook. Create your own taonga (treasured object) with the guidance of our expert carvers, using authentic pounamu (New Zealand greenstone). You don’t need any experience - you’ll shape the stone yourself, step by step, with our support.

This workshop is designed for entry-level carvers with next to no carving experience, and will take a full day of 6-7 hrs. In this workshop we will cover the cultural history of the form, the tools and skills necessary for stone-carving and will guide participants through the process of creating a pounamu hei matau. By the end of the workshop, participants will have a fully completed and bound hei matau to take home.
