This pair of Kapeu earring have been hand made by Naki Fehoko from sperm whale jaw bone. And hung from from sterling silver hooks.
Kapeu are traditional earrings worn by both genders and indicate that an individual holds mana (prestige). Kapeu can be further decorated with feathers to enhance their appearance. These taonga were a sign of status, leadership and authority.
