Kapeu can be further decorated with feathers to enhance their appearance. These taonga were a sign of status, leadership and authority.
Historically, Kapeuwere originally traditional earrings worn by both genders and indicate that an individual holds mana (prestige). They take on the tapu of the wearer, possessing a great amount of energy and mauri (life force).
This piece measures 13 x 2.5 cm and was carved by Alex Sands.
