A Whale tail is the symbol of the Tohorā (whale). Tohorā are the kaitiaki (guardians) of the realm of Tangaroa (God of the Ocean). In the Maori world, they are an omen of the supernatural and a sign of abundance because of their many offerings even in death.
Flower Jade (Raukaraka) is named after the blossom of a Karaka tree. It is found exclusively in the West Coast of the South Island, NZ. Flower Jade is usually deep green with beautiful inclusions of yellow and orange.
This is hung by a black adjustable platted cord and measures 5.7 x 3. It was carved by Robert Singer.
