Manaia, a powerful personal guardian in Māori tradition, embodies mana – the concept of power, authority, and prestige. Believed to possess ethereal presence and energy, the manaia protects its wearer and maintains spiritual balance. In Māori cosmology, the manaia is often depicted as a kaitiaki (protector) and messenger between the earthly and spiritual worlds.
This manaia was carved by master carver and artist Yuri Terenyi. It boasts very fine ornamental designs and is finished with an antique style natural onion based stain. It measures 110mm by 20mm and is hung by hand-braided wax polyester cord. The carving will transform over time with a new patina - manifesting the spirit of it’s owner.
