Pekapeka are ancient carved forms, and represent the native bat of Aotearoa.  

It is said that Māui-tikitiki-a-Taranga, the great trickster would take on the form of the pekapeka. 

Worn on special occasions it is carved as a twin Manaia. 

This whalebone pekapeka is carved by Alex Sands, and has paua inlay eyes.  It is hung on a black adjustable cord.   It can be worn on either side - with both sides showing different colourings of the bone. 

This piece measures: 75 W x 55L x 10mm
