Porohita Inanga - Greenstone Disc Pendant

Sands Carving Studio

Porohita (circle) symbolise the completion of cycles, a concept reflected in the celestial dance of Tama-nui-te-rā and Hina-te-marama, the sun and the moon. These circular movements across the sky serve as a powerful reminder of the cyclical nature of life. Giving a porohita as a gift expresses a deep desire to have that person at the center of one's world.

This porohita was carved by Jeremy Walsh from inanga pounamu sourced from Te Wai Pounamu. It has been decorated with mangōpare (hammerhead shark) kowhaiwhai and unaunahi (fish scale) embellishments. It measures 80mm in diameter, has a matt finish, and is bound with an adjustable hand-braided cord.
