Manaia are the kaitiaki (guardian) of the earth, sky, and sea. Worn as a pendant they protect the wearer from harm and are a symbol of status, mana (prestige), and integrity.
This manaia was hand carved by Finau Katoa from parāoa (whale bone). It measures 83 x 36 x 7mm and has an adjustable hand-plaited cord.
