Rei Puta Tangiwai- Greenstone Tooth Pendant

Often considered descendants of Tangaroa, whales whakapapa to Māori and are highly regarded tūpuna (ancestors) symbolising abundance and strength. Rei puta symbolise this connection, with the carver taking the form of the rei niho parāoa (sperm whale tooth) and infusing it with their own inspiration.
This rei puta was carved by Yuki Tanaka from Tangiwai sourced from Anita Bay of Te Wai Pounamu, Aotearoa. It measures 62mm by 30mm, has a glossy finish, and is bound with an adjustable hand-braided cord.
