Rei puta are chiefly taonga traditionally carved from the teeth of Tohorā (whale). Rei niho carved from pounamu maintains the beauty of the traditional form, symbolising the intimate connection between Maori and Tohorā.
This Rei Niho is carved from Raukaraka stone And was carved by Samuel Potter. This piece measures roughly 10 x 5 cm and is hung by a tan adjustable wax cord.
