Whale tails are a symbol of the Tohorā (whale). Tohorā are the kaitiaki (guardians) of the realm of Tangaroa (God of the Ocean). In the Maori world, they are an omen of the supernatural and a sign of abundance because of their many offerings, even in death.

This piece was designed and hand-carved from cow bone by Peter Mitchell  and is hung by an adjustable hand platted cord.

The size of this piece is 47 x 34 x 7mm.
