Wheku Black Maire Pūtōrino - Carved Face Native Timber Flute

Pūtōrino are the embodiment of Hine Raukatauri (Goddess of music).   Pūtōrino produces both a male and female voice, with a third spirit voice found between them.  The tangi (cry) of the Pūtōrino are unique to the indigenous Iwi of Aotearoa. 

This piece was carved by Alex Sands  from Black Maire wood.  It has been carved with the wheku face and inlayed with paua.

The pūtōrino measures: 265 x 30mm and comes with a display stand made from basalt.
