Manaia are a personal shield of great power. Manaia is the embodiment of mana - the archetypal Māori measurement of worth, respect, and prestige.

This manaia is carved from kawakawa pounamu.  Kawakawa is an intensely dark green stone. This pounamu is named after the leaf of the Kawakawa tree.  When worn the pounamu will appear quite dark, almost black, but hold it up to the light and the beautiful green shines through.

It is hung by an adjustable black hand platted cord.

This piece was hand carved by  Yuki Tanaka and measures 80 x 60mm.
