This Pounamu Whakaruruhau - Notched Landscape Pendant embodies the Maori proverb that states “Toitu te marae a Tane, Toitu te marae a Tangaroa, Toitu te iwi Pounamu - If the land is well and the sea is well, the people will thrive.”

If you look closely, you will see the notches are actually hands that represent one’s whanau.

The pounamu features different shades of olive green that create a beautiful landscape within the stone. It measures 7.9 x 7 cm.

Whakaruruhau are breastplates or shield adornments that represent strength and leadership. They are a taonga of personal protection that share their beauty to the Te Ao Tūroa (outer world).
