Traditional Maori heru are combs worn as functional hair ornaments by both men and women. Often the decorations on pre-European heru were a symbol of mana and prestige.
This heru has been carved from Black Maire by Alex Sands and is decorated with Unaunahi Whakarei.
When not in use, the heru can be displayed on the basalt stand, making a lovely decorative piece.
The heru measures 170mm L x 38mm W.
