Hand-carved and polished Kauri Gum Toki is made from kauri gum known as black jade due to its rich dark lustre and is also one of the rarest varieties of kauri gum.

This piece was hand carved by Conrad Henderson.

Kauri gum is sometimes known as New Zealand amber, it is the fossilized tree sap of the Kauri tree which is the cornerstone of the indigenous forests of the upper North Island.

In the ancient Māori world, the Toki are adze that were vital tools in everyday life. Toki has come to represent the strength and skill of an individual, and the acquisition of knowledge and mana (prestige).
