This Onewa - Basalt Rei Puta Manaia Mask Pendant 

was hand carved by Alex Sands, has paua inlaid eyes and is bound with a black adjustable wax cord.

This piece measures: 87 x 30 x 6mm.

Rei puta are chiefly taonga traditionally carved from the teeth of Tohorā (whale). Rei niho carved from pounamu maintains the beauty of the traditional form, symbolising the intimate connection between Maori and Tohorā.
