This intricately carved Whakaruruhau Porowhita Koru - Pounamu Circle Shield Pendant features shades of light and dark olive greens with a closed circle with a hole at its centre. It is bound by an adjustable black wax cord and measures approximately 83 x 68 x 10 mm. This beautiful pendant was carved by Paul Anderson.

Whakaruruhau are breastplates or shield adornments that represent strength and leadership. They are a taonga of personal protection that share their beauty to the Te Ao Turoa (outer world)

The koru carvings, which are often used in Māori art as a symbol of creation, are based on the shape of an unfurling fern frond. The closed circle with a hole represents the never ending circle of life and nature.
Both the spiral and the circle together have been described as being a symbolic metaphor for a never-ending journey of discovery and re-discovery.
