Rei puta are chiefly taonga traditionally carved from the teeth of Tohorā (whale). Rei niho carved from pounamu maintains the beauty of the traditional form, symbolising the intimate connection between Maori and Tohorā.

This piece was hand carved from whale bone by Alex Sands and bound in a ridge knot binding style. 

This piece measures: 85 x 25mm and hangs from a black adjustable cord.
