Huia were symbols of status, mana and beauty. These rare birds, sought after by Maori, were used for chiefly adornments. Both their feathers and their beaks are highly sought after. Now extinct, their likeness and symbolic status are preserved in pounamu.

These Inanga Ngutu Huia Mau Taringa - Sterling Silver Huia Beak Pounamu Earrings were hand-crafted by John Mayo and carved by Alex Sands. This pair measures 7 x 2 cm and features contemporary Sterling Silver Geometric caps.
