This Kapeu pendant is made from Raukaraka or Flower Jade and is bound by a tan adjustable wax fibre cord. It measures 11.5 x 1.2 cm.
Kapeu are traditional earrings worn by both genders and indicate that an individual holds mana (prestige). Kapeu can be further decorated with feathers to enhance their appearance. These taonga were a sign of status, leadership and authority.
