This piece features a lovely chatoyant marking with beautiful shades of green and black dappling. It was carved by Samuel Potter measures 8 x 4.2 cm. It is hung by an adjustable black hand-platted wax cord.
Rei puta are chiefly taonga traditionally carved from the teeth of Tohorā (whale). Rei niho carved from pounamu maintains the beauty of the traditional form, symbolising the intimate connection between Maori and Tohorā.
