Pūtōrino are the embodiment of Hine Raukatauri (guardian of music). Pūtōrino produces both a male and female voice, with a third spirit voice found between them. The tangi (cry) of the pūtōrino is unique to Aotearoa. 

This taonga was carved from black maire wood and features muka (tan) wax cord detailing. It measures roughly 265 x 30 mm.
