Manaia, a powerful personal guardian in Māori tradition, embodies mana – the concept of personal power, authority, and prestige. Believed to possess ethereal presence and energy, the manaia is thought to protect its wearer. In Māori cosmology, the manaia is often depicted as a guardian of the earth, sea, and sky.

This taonga is carved from beef bone, has paua inlay eyes and measures approximately 72 x 36 mm.

This taonga was hand-carved by Naki Fehoko
