Roimata Totoweka - Greenstone Teardrop Pendant

Sands Carving Studio

The roimata embodies our emotions in times of joy, sadness, celebration and tribulation. Traditionally made from pounamu adzes or similar tools that were too worn down to be functional, they were gifted as a way of remembering the history and tūpuna (ancestors). They remind us of our humanity, and our ability to overcome adversity even when the path is spiritually difficult.

This roimata was carved by Samuel Potter from totoweka pounamu sourced from the Big Bay of Te Wai Pounamu, Aotearoa. It measures 96mm by 16mm, has a semi-gloss finish, and is bound with an adjustable hand-braided polyester cord.
