Hei matau are fish hooks fashioned in the style of Māui. These are symbols of abundance, prosperity, and wealth. They are also considered to provide good luck and safety on water, and are therefore thoughtful gifts for travellers.
This ornate antiqued beef bone Hei Matau Fish Hook Pendant was carved by Yuri Terenyi. It is hung on a black adjustable cord and can be worn on either side - with both sides showing intricate carvings.
This piece is carved from beef bone, has paua inlay eyes and measures approximately 33 x 80 x 5 mm.
