The roimata embodies our emotions in times of joy, sadness, celebration and tribulation. Traditionally made from pounamu adzes or similar tools that were too worn down to be functional, they were gifted as a way of remembering the history and tūpuna (ancestors). They remind us of our humanity, and our ability to overcome adversity even when the path is spiritually difficult.
This roimata was carved by Aden Hoglund from inanga pounamu sourced from Te Wai Pounamu, Aotearoa, then capped and hung by our resident jeweller John Mayo. It measures 63mm by 14mm and comes on a sterling silver chain.
