Rei puta are chiefly taonga traditionally carved from the teeth of tohorā (whale). Rei niho carved from pounamu maintains the beauty of the traditional form, symbolising the intimate connection between Māori and tohorā. The perfect gift for one who uses the power of speech to effect change or to benefit their community.
This piece was hand-carved by Jeremy Walsh from kaurangi pounamu. It measures 70 x 31 x 6mm and is comes with an adjustable hand-plaited cord.
