Hei matau are fish hooks fashioned in the style of Māui. These are symbols of abundance, prosperity, and wealth. They are also considered to provide good luck and safety on water, and are therefore thoughtful gifts for travellers. The koru is a symbol for growth and transformation.
This taonga was hand-carved by Paul Anderson. It measures 7 x 5.5 cm and has a black adjustable hand-braided cord.
