Sands Carving Studio

Traditional Maori heru are combs worn as functional hair ornaments by both men and women. Often the decorations on pre-European heru were a symbol of mana and prestige.

Thi heru was carved by Finau Katoa from pilot whale jaw bone. It measures 290mm by 135mm and has a semi- gloss finish.
