The Pekapeka is a double headed Manaia. It has been suggested that the Pekapeka represents the native bat However, it is also seen to represent two intertwined bird forms.

Pekapeka are believed to symbolise spiritual protection and guardianship.

This piece features red wax eyes on one side and paua inlay eyes on the other side.

This taonga measures 5 x 6.5 cm and was hand carved by Yuki Tanaka
