This Sculptural Toki will come mounted on brass and set upon a native timber base. This exquisite piece spans 17 x 7.5 cm and is adorned with a striking paua shell eye.
In the ancient Māori world, the Toki or adze was a vital tool in everyday life. Toki have come to represent the strength and skill of an individual, and the acquisition of knowledge and mana (prestige).
Pāua is traditionally linked to the stars or whetū, representing the watchful eyes of ancestors peering from the night sky.
