Hei Toki Koru Raukaraka - Greenstone Adze Spiral Pendant

Sands Carving Studio

With expertise and power the carver wields the adze. Relied on for survival in ancient times, traditional tools are imbued with significance and meaning. The toki epitomises the artistry and skill of the craftsman, protector and provider. Of great mana (prestige), to wield the toki is to wield strength.

Koru, the quintessential Māori pattern, represents growth, transformation, potential, and peace. Taken from the fern frond found throughout the forests of Aotearoa, koru represent the growth and transformation, the potential and peace found in the whenua (land). They are gifts of love and friendship.

This hei toki is a part of a set with the other half available here.

This hei toki was carved by Aden Hoglund from raukaraka pounamu sourced from Marsden of Te Wai Pounamu, Aotearoa. It measures 46mm by 19mm, has a semi-gloss finish, and is bound with an adjustable hand-braided polyester cord.
