Hei Matau are fish hooks fashioned in the style of Māui. These are symbols of abundance, prosperity, and wealth. They are also considered to provide good luck and safety on water, and are therefore thoughtful gifts for travellers.

This piece was hand carved by Samuel Potter and measures 80 x 36 x 6mm. It is hung by an adjustable black hand-plaited cord.
